Mop Head with Steam Routed from Side

DESCRIPTION

This is a mop-joint with a detachable steam hose designed for molding.

PROCESS

While working at SharkNinja I was tasked with designing the mop-joint for a new steam mop concept. I initially had relatively little CAD experience and was unsure about how to approach this task so I had to do a lot of research, both at home and at work, to quickly pick up the skills needed to design this. I initially started with an existing model of a regular joint and modified that, but it became too difficult to modify, so I rebuilt everything from scratch. It was then challenging trying to make this intricate joint moldable with as few pieces as possible. I had to be very creative in the design to achieve this. I went through many iterations and with much feedback to get to the final design.

LESSONS LEARNED

This was one of the most challenging CAD projects I had worked on so I greatly improved my CAD skills in this intensive project. I also learned the importance of asking questions where needed and having confidence to figure out what you don't know.
