Lens Waterproof Test
Testing the waterproof seal on different lens designs

Lens Module Testing
Full Housing Testing
Bergeon waterproof tester
DESCRIPTION
A test I designed at Intel to measure the waterproof seal of a lens to be used in a wearable device that needed to be waterproof. This involved creating a reusable test apparatus that sealed an air cavity on one side of the lens without interfering with the actual lens seal.
LEARNINGS
CHALLENGES
-
Sealing the edges of the lens module without sealing the lens to be tested (<1mm clearance)
-
Finding a reliable and repeatable sealant and application process
-
Optimizing support structure area without interfering with lens
-
Designing to be adaptable for future lens desings
-
Adopting for full housing
-
Iterations could take days to test with dry time and printing time
-
Minimizing lenses destroyed in process
-
Waterproof testing, sealants, and standards
-
Optimizing number of design iterations to find solution in shortest time period
-
Creative problem solving and iterative design
-
Incorporating peer feedback from design reviews
