Assembly Fixture Design
Fixtures I built at Intel for precise assembly of prototype components
For confidentiality reasons I can only show a few of the fixtures I built
DESCRIPTION
These are a few of a dozen or so fixtures I built at Intel. Most are used for assembly of adhesives and other thin/small components that require precision placement for fit and functionality. Also used for forming flexible components, making consistent modifications, and for testing.
FEATURES
Universal sturdy base with friction strips
Toggle Clamps for alignment and pressure
Removable parts for multi-step assembly and modularity
Other Features:
-
Careful tolerance analysis in design
-
Dowel pins and lofted surfaces for aligment
-
FEA for structural analysis
Foam for even pressure application
Labeling and alignment indicators in print

LESSONS LEARNED
-
Learned to design for tight alignment while accounting for tolerances in components and fixture parts
-
Saw value of tolerance analysis from my own mistakes
-
Learned how to copy, offset, and modify complex geometries for mating surfaces in fixtures
-
Gained experience incorporating design feedback and coming up with my own innovative ideas to solve complex assembly challenges
-
Hands on experience assembling tiny components with my fixtures
